Most of the technical articles on data storage appear in IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits. Your company or university probably has these in their library already. If not, visit IEEE. They are working on getting the papers on-line for subscribers (the OPeRA database).
