As an introduction, the industry leading capabilitites that ChannelScience offers include the following.
Read Channel Support for the Data Storage Industry
ChannelScience has a deep practical and theoretical understanding of partial-response maximum-likelihood (PRML) sequence detection architectures and algorithms. Services are provided for evaluating, designing, optimizing, understanding, and using state-of-the-art PRML and iterative read channels for magnetic disk and tape, optical disk and tape, and even emerging MEMS-based and holigraphic storage devices.

Our flagship product, PRMLpro, provides the industry with an independent system-level tool for design, test, and evaluation of key storage components and of the data storage device itself. Emerging component suppliers evaluate and improve the performance of their products using PRMLpro's system-level metrics such as bit error rate (BER), instead of proxy measurements like amplitude and pulsewidth. Furthermore, this is accomplished without the high cost of a large channel research staff.

PRMLpro also provides a very repeatable and sensitive system-level metric for the study of patterned media.
Custom Software Development in MATLAB®
As a Connections Partner with The MathWorks, ChannelScience has deep experience in creating, testing, deploying, and supporting highly complex, graphical, system-level MATLAB® simulations. The most advanced example of this is PRMLproTM, the flagship product of ChannelScience. A 30-day Free Trial download of this read channel software for the data storage industry is available.
Error Correction Coding (ECC)
ECC enables reliable communication and storage of data. ChannelScience analyzes the performance as well as the inner structure of ECC implementations -- including LDPC (low-density parity check) codes and iterative decoding techniques. We also provide training in ECC through KnowledgeTek.
Improve Sensor Performance with Advanced Detection Techniques
ChannelScience is actively engaged in finding new applications for advanced detection and coding in the three areas below. Please contact us if you would like to investigate any of these further.
  • Sensors to improve the development, generation, deployment, distribution, or use of traditional and alternative energy sources
  • Sensors of biological and chemical processes (for medical and defense applications)
  • Emerging applications in data storage, especially solid-state storage
Design Review
ChannelScience has deep experience in analyzing designs and approaches for signal detection, signal processing, and data storage. Even in new areas, this experience can be valuable to you by putting your latest initiatives to the test of independent, confidential technical scrutiny.
Long- and short-term professional consulting services are available in the areas described above, as well as for head/media/channel integration; expert witness and patent support; technical course development; turbo coding and iterative detection; and for system simulation, testing, evaluation and optimization. We also assemble small, focused teams to quickly attack emerging technological challenges in any area of algorithm development.
Technical Competitive Analysis
ChannelScience has been contracted to evaluate the technology of merger and acquisition (M&A) targets, the viability of entering new technological markets, and the requirements for building teams and creating new products to compete effectively in existing markets. Project reports typically include quantitative conclusions, backed with reasons for the conclusions; identification of assumptions and the implications of changes to those assumptions; and an assessment of the underlying trends in the target industry that are likely to affect the future.

These assessments are not based on market share and customer behavior predictions, but on the science of the underlying technology.
