Consulting

Beginning in 1996, ChannelScience provides world-class consulting for thought-leaders, startups, and product developers in memory and storage technologies. Contact us for a free consultation to discuss how we might be able to support your unique technology or business needs. If you are working with data, signals, memory, storage, or chiplets, talking with ChannelScience should be part of your plan.

Archival and Cold Storage Consulting

At ChannelScience, our work recovering data from damaged and obsolete magnetic tapes isn’t just about preservation—it’s about pattern recognition. Every dropout, signal loss, and unreadable format we encounter reveals something deeper: the hidden costs of inadequate archival foresight.

These lessons matter now more than ever, as the world turns to next-generation storage technologies like ceramics, silica, DNA-based storage, and other emerging media.

If you are developing, evaluating, or deploying advanced archival technologies, ChannelScience can bring our experience with legacy data recovery to your project.

The future of storage isn’t just higher density. It’s survivability, interpretability, and the ability to be read a century from now without needing to reverse-engineer the format from scratch. It’s learning from the past to protect the future.

We’re applying what we’ve learned about signal integrity, format obsolescence, media fragility, and long-term readability to ensure that today’s and tomorrow’s archival systems don’t repeat the mistakes of the past.

Semiconductor Chiplet Strategy and Pathfinding

Our Chief Scientist, Chuck Sobey, is the co-founder of Chiplet Summit, the leading trade show dedicated to chiplet technology We have a front-row view of where the industry is heading and who’s driving innovation.

ChannelScience guides organizations through the rapidly evolving chiplet ecosystem. We offer strategic consulting to assess current architectures, identify technology gaps, and evaluate integration options across memory, I/O, and compute elements.

Whether you’re exploring advanced packaging, interconnect standards, or chiplet-based AI accelerators, we provide pathfinding support and clear, actionable recommendations to move your strategy forward – or simply get it started!

Extreme Data Recovery Consulting

ChanelScience pioneered extreme data recovery on hard disk drives with our development of drive-independent recovery methods. Since then, we have developed methods for reading extremely damaged optical discs, solid-state flash drives, and tapes.

If you are an institution in need of reading badly damaged media, we may be able to help. However, these are always long and expensive research projects. As such, these services are not suitable for consumer data recovery needs.

Signal Processing, Detection, and ECC Consulting

The signal processing chain in modern data storage devices is sophisticated. It models the physics of the storage medium, adapts to changing conditions, and learns to detect anomalies with machine learning and AI.

ChannelScience continues to deepen our expertise in signal processing, probability and statistics, PRML detection, soft-decision decoding, advanced ECC, and AI/ML.

Our expertise is available to help develop your emerging memory and storage technologies. At a spin transfer torque MRAM startup, for example, we modeled the complex probabilities of write, read, and retention errors.

We architected its error mitigation and ECC (error correction codes) system to achieve first-pass silicon success and developed related IP that the startup patented.

AI/ML Strategy Consulting

ChannelScience is an AI-first company—AI shapes our workflow, our company structure, and our products. We can advise companies on implementing their own internal AI strategies and on adding such capabilities to their products.

We enable rare legacy datasets to be structured into AI/ML-ready assets – unlocking their value for training, analytics, and sovereign AI initiatives.

This is what makes recovering and migrating legacy tapes economically viable now, even when there hasn’t been interest in them for decades.

ChannelScience products use machine learning to identify tape formats, characterize waveforms, optimize channel settings, and detect data in damaged or obscure signals.

Our products can capture the judgment of expert operators, embedding their know-how into intelligent, repeatable processes. Predictive maintenance, powered by multimodal sensing, helps safeguard fragile media before failures occur.

Expert Consulting for IP Protection

ChannelScience provides expert witness and expert consulting services in cases involving data storage technologies. Our areas of specialization include hard disk drives, flash memory, signal processing, and error correction coding (ECC) for storage devices and systems.

We bring decades of technical leadership, industry knowledge, and clear communication to support IP disputes, claim charting, and detailed systems analysis.

Professional, Custom Training

ChannelScience delivers high-impact training for professionals who need to lead, communicate, and innovate in a data-driven world.

Our courses are built for working engineers, business leaders, and technical teams. They have a reputation for clarity, brevity, relevance, and immediate usefulness.

We offer customized sessions in storage and memory technologies, executive-level use of AI in business, and powerful communication and presentation skills for technical professionals in the AI era.

We also design and assemble technical training curricula for top industry events, such as FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage and Chiplet Summit—training the trainers and setting the standard.
